11,400 Palestinian Students In Gaza And West Bank Killed Since Israel's October 2023 Military Campaign

JAKARTA - The Palestinian Ministry of Education said about 11,406 students were killed and 8,556 injured since the onset of Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as the latest conflict broke out in the Palestinian enclave in October last year.

The Ministry of Education confirmed in a statement Tuesday that the number of students killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of aggression reached more than 11,292, and those injured reached 17,965.

Meanwhile, 114 students died in the West Bank and 591 others were injured, as quoted from WAFA October 16.

Further explained, about 550 teachers and administrators were killed and 3,717 injured in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and more than 145 detained in the West Bank.

The ministry also said that around 362 government schools, universities, university buildings, and 65 UNRWA schools were bombed and damaged in the Gaza Strip, causing 124 of them to be badly damaged and 62 completely destroyed.

Meanwhile in the West Bank, about 84 schools and 7 universities were also invaded and damaged, while 133 government schools were used as shelters in the Gaza Strip.

The Ministry of Education added that around 718,000 students in the Gaza Strip still missed the opportunity to go to school and study since the beginning of the aggression, while most students suffered psychological trauma and faced difficult health conditions.

It is known that the latest conflict in Gaza broke out in line with the attack by the Palestinian militant group led by Hamas on Israel's southern region on October 7, 2023.

About 1,200 people were killed and 250 others held hostage as a result of the attack, triggering an Israeli campaign by blockade, airstrikes and ground operations by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Separately, health authorities in Gaza reported on Tuesday that Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks since the latest conflict broke out on October 7, 2023, had reached 42,344 and 99,013 others injured, with the majority of victims being women and children.
