Humanitarian Aid From Indonesia Arrives In Yemen

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) ensures humanitarian assistance from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) for disaster victims arrives safely in Aden City, Yemen.

Head of BNPB Suharyanto said they were welcomed by the Minister of Local Administration of the Republic of Yemen, Husein Abdul Rahman Al-Aghbari and his staff upon arrival at Aden International Airport.

According to Suharyanto, the entire eight-hour flight from Jakarta on Monday (14/10) at night went smoothly.

Although previously he had transited to Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, and had to continue his three-hour journey to Aden.

Upon arrival at Aden, humanitarian aid items from the Indonesian government with a total weighing 67.5 tons were immediately unloaded from the trunk of Garuda Indonesia aircraft and immediately handed over symbolically to local authorities.

The assistance includes 19 items of items covering hundreds of family tents for refugees, tarpaulins, mattresses, blankets, lighting lights, ready-to-eat food, food packages, additional toddler food packages, additional food packages for pregnant women, folding jerry cans, portable toilets, cleaning equipment, adult women's clothing, adult male clothing, women's needs, children's clothing, and cooking utensils.

The head of BNPB expressed President Joko Widodo's deep concern and sorrow over the disaster that has affected 12,000 families in Yemen.

Suharyanto revealed that the assistance was not at all related to domestic politics in Yemen, but solely in the name of humanity to ease the burden of suffering for residents who had difficulties after the flood disaster some time ago.

The government and all Indonesian citizens, he said, also hope that relations with countries in the Middle East can strengthen a sense of solidarity for a better future.
