Papuan Police Ask For Additional 1,000 Personnel To Secure The 2024 Pilkada

JAYAPURA - Papua Police Chief Inspector General Patrige Renwarin said he had asked the National Police Headquarters for an additional 1,000 Polri personnel to assist security during the regional elections in Papua.

"We have asked the National Police Headquarters for assistance for security during the Pilkada, but until now there has been no information on how many personnel will be assigned to Papua," said Regional Police Chief Renwarin as reported by ANTARA, Monday, October 14.

From the mapping carried out, there are 16 districts in two provinces in the jurisdiction of the Papua Regional Police as vulnerable areas.

The 16 districts that are categorized as vulnerable are in Papua Mountains and Central Papua Provinces.

The level of vulnerability in the region is not only caused by conflicts between supporters of candidate pairs but also disturbances to armed criminal groups (KKB).

Therefore, for areas prone to KKB, his party has advised each local government to write to the local KPU so that TPS can be moved.

"The transfer of TPS can only be carried out by the KPU based on the request of the local government by attaching the reason," explained Papua Police Chief Inspector General Pol Patrige.

The vulnerable areas in the Papua Mountains Province are Jayawijaya, Lanny Jaya, Nduga, Central Mamberamo, Yalimo, Tolikara, Yahukimo and Bintang Mountains.

Meanwhile, the other eight districts that are included in the Central Papua region include Nabire, Deiyai, Dogiai, Paniai, Intan Jaya, Puncak, Puncak Jaya and Mimika Regency.
