Lebanon Urges UN DK To Investigate Israeli Attack On UNIFIL Injuring TNI Members

JAKARTA - The international community and the UN Security Council must launch an investigation into Israel's systematic and deliberate attacks on the UN provisional forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) stationed in southern Lebanon.

"Lebanon urges the Security Council [PBB], the international community, and countries that contribute to UNIFIL's mission to carry out investigations into this matter," read a statement by the Lebanese Foreign Ministry urging the Security Council to denounce the attack.

Reported by ANTARA from Sputnik-OANA, Friday, October 11, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry stressed that the absence of a firm stance from members of the Security Council would allow Israel to continue its attacks on Lebanon.

The attack could at the same time have serious consequences for UN peace missions around the world.

On Thursday (10/10), the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) attacked three UNIFIL positions, according to a peacekeeper to Al Jazeera, adding that two peacekeepers were injured in the attack.

Media reported the IDF put the peacekeepers in danger by positioning their troops near UN missions during Israel's ground operations against the Hezbollah movement, Lebanon.

Since October 1, Israel has carried out ground operations against Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon while continuing airstrikes.

Despite losses, Hezbollah continued to fight Israeli forces on land and launched rockets across the border.

Israel says its main goal is to create safe conditions for the return of 60,000 residents who fled due to bombings in the north.
