Defendant Of 1 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine Courier In Medan Sued 14 Years In Prison

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Medan District Attorney (Kejari), North Sumatra, demanded 14 years in prison for two defendants who were couriers of methamphetamine weighing one kilogram.

"Ask the panel of judges to sentence the defendants Muhammad Ayub (39) and Shahansyah alias Sahan (41), to imprisonment for 14 years each," said Public Prosecutor of the Medan Kejari Aprilda Yanti Hutasuhut as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 9.

The prosecutor assessed that the actions of the two defendants had fulfilled the elements of committing narcotics crimes, as the first alternative indictment.

"The two defendants were proven to have violated Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics," he said.

In addition to imprisonment, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Medan also demanded that the two defendants Muhammad Ayub and Shahansyah pay a fine of Rp. 1 billion.

"With the provision that if the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for eight months," said April.

After listening to the reading of the demands of the Medan Prosecutor's Office, Chief Judge Karyaka Happy Tarigan postponed the trial and continued next week.

"Continued on Wednesday (16/10), with the agenda of reading a memorandum of defense or pledoi from the two defendants," said Judge Efrata.

Public Prosecutor of the Medan Kejari, Aprlida Yanti Hutasuhut, said in the indictment that this case began on Saturday (22/6). Three Medan Police officers obtained information that the defendant Ayub was carrying drugs, on Jalan Gatot Subroto Medan.

Officers went straight to the location and saw a man riding a suspicious motorbike. Then, stopping and searching were found a plastic package containing methamphetamine weighing one kilogram.

To the police, the defendant Ayub admitted that he was ordered by Budi (not yet caught) to deliver methamphetamine to the defendant Sahan in exchange for Rp. 5 million when he arrived at his destination.

Hearing this confession, Medan Polrestabes officers then conducted an investigation and arrested the defendant Sahan.
