Police Investigate Cause Of Ship Explosion At Benoa Port, Bali

DENPASAR - Denpasar City Police, Bali, investigated the cause of the explosion of the Permata 168 Motorboat belonging to PT. Inti Mas which was docked at the West Pier of Benoa Harbor, Denpasar.

"Until now the case is still under investigation. There are no forensic laboratory results yet," said Head of Public Relations of Denpasar Police AKP Ketut Sukadi, Monday, October 7.

Sukadi said that based on information from the Benoa Police Chief, Kompol I Wayan Sueca, the exact cause of the ship's explosion was not yet known.

According to Sukadi's statement, a request for assistance in the investigation to the Bali Regional Police Forensic Laboratory has been sent.

He confirmed that there were no casualties in the ship explosion incident at Benoa Harbor, Denpasar, Sunday at 11.00 WITA.

"There were no fatalities. The injured victims are still being treated at the hospital," said Sukadi.

Sukadi said that in the incident of the Permata 168 Motor Ship Explosion belonging to PT. Inti Mas, who was docked at the West Pier of Benoa Harbor, Denpasar, a crew member, suffered burns and another suffered a fracture.

The victim Sumadi was a ship technician who suffered burns to his face and hands, while Sutam (45) suffered a broken right leg.

Sukadi said he did not know for sure the cause of the ship's explosion and the Bali Police Labfor team are still conducting further investigations.

According to witness Minutfa (32), when he painted the exhaust of the ship and rested in the wheelhouse with other crew members, he heard a very loud explosion from the engine room so that witnesses and other crew members ran to save themselves.

"At that time the witness saw someone bounced onto the ship next door," said Sukadi.

According to other witnesses Erwin Masela (32) when he heard a very loud explosion from the engine room, the witness panicked and ran to the ship's deck and saw thick smoke from the engine room and the witness helped extinguish the smoke coming out of the engine room.

At 13.00 WITA the fire was extinguished by PMK Pelindo Benoa officers. The material loss from the incident is not yet known.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bali Regional Police Forensic Laboratory, Kombes I Nyoman Sukena, has not provided the latest information regarding the investigation into the ship's explosion incident.
