Serving Quietly At The Jakarta Cathedral Church, Ignasius Jonan Is Grateful

JAKARTA - Former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ignasius Jonan admitted that he is grateful to be able to worship safely and calmly without interruption. Jonan attended a series of three holy days worship, Good Friday at the Jakarta Cathedral Church.

"I am grateful to be able to attend the service to commemorate the death of Isa Almasih on Good Friday and also be calm, yes, so there is no disturbance whatsoever," said Jonan to reporters at the Jakarta Cathedral Church, Friday, April 2.

He also thanked all parties for maintaining mutual tolerance among religious communities. He also expressed his gratitude to the government which continues to strive to provide a sense of security so that worship can run smoothly.

Jonan asked Christians not to worry, even though recently there have been acts of terror. Because, because of the support from all parties, worship to welcome the three holy days can run.

"I still recommend (worship, red) because there is already support from all parties so that we can carry out worship properly," said Jonan.

However, he also continued to ask that the implementation of religious activities also be in accordance with health protocols. Moreover, currently the COVID-19 pandemic is happening.

"Hopefully other colleagues (worship, red) without ignoring health protocols and can carry out worship properly," he said.

As previously reported, the Jakarta Cathedral Church only provides 309 seats for the congregation or 20 percent of the church's capacity. This was done in order to follow the rules for preventing transmission of COVID-19.

Congregations must also register themselves first on the website of the Jakarta Archdiocese. There is also a series of Good Friday worship events today, which will be held in two sessions, namely 15.00 WIB and 18.00 WIB.
