Slovakia To Send 2.5 Tons Of Humanitarian Aid To Lebanon

JAKARTA - Slovak authorities will send 2.5 tonnes of humanitarian aid in the form of food and medicine to Lebanon using military aircraft, which will also be used to evacuate Slovaks from the region, Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar said.

The Slovak government previously approved sending 30 Slovak military members to Lebanon to organize the evacuation of citizens of the republic.

"We have prepared everything. Today the government approved the use of military aircraft which will also transport humanitarian aid on the first flight to Beirut. This is humanitarian assistance, which mainly consists of food and medical supplies, weighing 2.5 tons," said Blanar.

He said more than 30 Slovaks had applied for evacuation from Lebanon.

The Czech Republics, Cyprus, Poland and Croatia have also expressed interest in evacuating their citizens using Slovak aircraft, Blanar added.

Israel and the Lebanese-based Hezbollah movement have been attacking each other's rockets since last week.

Israel sent troops across the border this week, and ground clashes began early on Wednesday. Many countries are evacuating their citizens from Lebanon due to insecurity.

Iran's missile attack on Israel on Tuesday (1/10) exacerbated tensions in the region.
