The roro ship of the Tandeman Crossing Motorboat (KMP) caught fire in the waters near Asam Island, Riau Islands.

General Manager of PT ASDP Indonesia Batam Branch Hermin Welkis said the burning roro ship was not operating and was anchoring in the waters of Telaga Punggur Batam, and it was confirmed that there were no casualties in the incident.

"The team is currently extinguishing the fire. There were no casualties because the ship was not working," Hermin said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 2.

His party is still looking into the cause of the roro ship fire.

Head of Traffic for the Riau Islands Land Transportation Management Center (BPTD) Fauzan explained that the ship fire was thought to have originated from an electrical short circuit.

"Our suspicion is that there was an electrical short circuit. It happened at around 13.00 WIB," he said.

His party said there were no casualties in the incident.

"On the ship there were 13 crew members who did not have any casualties, meaning that all survived," said Fauzan.

Currently KMP Tandeman is in the process of further handling by the marine fire fighting team and authorities in the local area.
