BPBD Reports 58 House Units In Sukabumi Damaged Due To Tornadoes

SUKABUMI - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sukabumi Regency said that as of Monday at 12.00 WIB the number of houses damaged by the tornado disaster in Warungkiara District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, was 58 units.

"From the results of the assessment carried out by disaster management officers, there were 58 housing units affected by the tornado that occurred on Sunday at around 15.30 WIB," said Head of the Emergency and Logistics Section of the Sukabumi Regency BPBD Medi Abdul Hakim in Sukabumi, Antara, Monday, September 30.

According to Medi, as many as 58 houses were damaged, consisting of six houses were heavily damaged and 52 houses were slightly damaged. Dozens of houses affected by the disaster were spread across five villages, namely Warungkiara, Sirnajaya, Sukaharja, and Damarraja villages.

Until now, joint officers from BPBD, TNI and Polri, the Warungkiara District Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimcam) and a number of volunteers are still at the disaster site to provide assistance and work together to clean up the rubble of houses damaged by being swept away by a tornado.

In addition to destroying dozens of houses, the tornado also caused a number of trees to fall, such as in Kampung/Warungkiara Village RT 01/01, then in Simpenan Village RT 02/07, and in Halimun Village.

The fallen tree also hit a number of houses, cut off PLN's power grid and closed the highway. However, everything has been handled by evacuating tree trunks that block the road and hit the house.

"We are still collecting data on the number of damaged houses, it is possible that the number will increase. Meanwhile, residents whose houses were heavily damaged have been evacuated to their relatives' homes," he said.

In this disaster, his party did not receive any reports of people who died or were injured. Meanwhile, the affected residents have received emergency assistance.

On the other hand, Medi appealed to residents to always be vigilant because the weather forecast from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in the next few days in the Sukabumi Regency has the potential for extreme weather, which is marked by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that can trigger hydrometeorological disasters.
