JAKARTA - Lebanese interim Prime Minister Najib Mikati said about one million people had been displaced by an Israeli attack that marked the country's largest wave of refuge in the country's history.

"Lebanon is experiencing the largest wave of refuges in its history," Mikati told a news conference after a government emergency committee meeting in Beirut, quoted from Anadolu, Sunday, September 29.

Mikati said that Lebanon's priority was to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression through ongoing diplomatic efforts. "We have no other choice," he said.

He also reaffirmed Lebanon's commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 1701 calling for an end to hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

"The Lebanese army is ready to carry out the resolution," he said, stressing the importance of preventing further escalation.

Separately, Mikati made a phone call with her Iraqi partner, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and thanked Baghdad for its support and assistance to Lebanon. Sudani reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to support Lebanon, according to Mikati's office statement.

The Iraqi Prime Minister also expressed his condolences for the killing of Hezbollah's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on Friday.
