Medan Court Sentenced To Death Courier 28 Kg Of Shabu And 14 Thousand Ecstasy Pills

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, sentenced the defendant to a drug courier of 28 kilograms/kg of methamphetamine and 14,431 ecstasy pills.

"Sentenced Francesco Ray Lumban Gaol (35) to the death penalty," said Chief Judge Lenny Megawaty Napitupulu, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 27.

The judge stated that the defendant was a resident of the Rivera Complex, Block B, Number 19, Ujung Serdang Village, Tanjung Morawa District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra.

Francesco was found guilty of violating Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics as the primary indictment.

This is burdensome for the defendant's actions not to support the government in eradicating drug trafficking, and the defendant's actions are a serious threat to the community, especially the younger generation.

"Meanwhile, the mitigating situation of the act was not found," said Judge Lenny.

After listening to the reading of the verdict, Chief Judge Lenny Megawaty Napitupulu gave the defendant seven days online to state whether to appeal or accept the verdict.

"The defendant and the prosecutor were given seven days to express their attitude towards the decision," said Lenny.

The death sentence is the same (conform) as the demands of the Prosecutor's Office, Belawan Rizki Fajar Bahari, who previously charged the defendant with the death penalty.

Previously, Riski's indictment stated that this case began on Monday, January 2024, at 19.00 WIB, on the side of Jalan Flamboyan Raya, Tanjung Sari Village, Medan Selayang District, Medan City.

At that time, the North Sumatra Police Ditresnarkoba received information that someone had, stored, controlled or provided drugs around Jalan Flamboyan Raya.

Then, the officer disguised himself as a buyer of methamphetamine by contacting the person suspected of providing the illicit goods and agreeing to make a transaction on the side of Jalan Flamboyan Raya.

At around 16.00 WIB, when the defendant was at a coffee shop, Jalan Flamboyan was contacted by Lundu Silitonga (DPO) and gave the officer's cellphone number along with code A822.

At 19.00 WIB, when the defendant was about to hand over the methamphetamine package, the officers immediately arrested him, and searched the rented house where the illicit goods were placed.

"When searched, officers found evidence in the form of methamphetamine weighing 28 kg and 14,431 ecstasy pills from the rented house," said Public Prosecutor Riski.
