Police Name 6 Suspects Of Beating Steward At Jalak Harupat Stadium

BANDUNG - Bandung City Police (Polresta), West Java, named six suspects in the case of beating security officers (teward) after the match against Persija Jakarta at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung Regency (23/9).

"We conducted an investigation based on the testimony of witness statements, then CCTV and other evidence we were able to identify these six suspects," said Bandung Police Chief Kombes Kusworo Wibowo as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, September 26.

Kusworo revealed that the arrested supporters had their respective roles, some kicked, hit, and damaged goods in the stadium.

"Six suspects with various backgrounds, some students, some who work, with different modes and motives, some who hit, some kick, some destroy things," he said.

When the riot happened, it did happen a few minutes. Then the parties from the TNI and Polri managed to break up this incident by blocking supporters who entered the middle of the field to return to their respective stands.

"However, this lasted for a short time of five to 10 minutes. The TNI-Polri immediately entered to secure the intervene. Thank God there were no problems and there were no victims. It was immediately safe, clear," he said.

Kusworo revealed that until now there is one steward who is still undergoing intensive care at the Oto Iskandar Dinata Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Soreang, Bandung Regency due to injuries to the head.

"Steward is being treated as many as nine people. Eight people after being treated by the Otista Hospital immediately went home and made a police report, while one person is still in the hospital," said Kusworo.

Kusworo emphasized that the police will continue to take firm action against supporters who were involved in acts of violence during football matches.

Kusworo reiterated that legal procedures will continue for the perpetrators. He emphasized the importance of giving lessons to supporters so that violence in any form is not tolerated in the world of football.

"We have to teach a lesson that this should not be allowed to happen and this is a bad example that can be a lesson for other supporters," he said.

For their actions, the six perpetrators were charged with Article 170 of the Criminal Code concerning beatings with a penalty of seven years in prison.

"If it causes serious injuries in which the victim cannot do his daily work, the suspect can be charged with a legal threat of nine years in prison," he said.
