After Soekarno, The MPR Agreed To Recover Gus Dur's Name Through The Revocation Of The MPR II/2001 TAP

JAKARTA - The MPR agreed to restore the good name of the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) through the revocation of the MPR Decree (TAP) Number II/MPR/2001.

After giving the views of the factions, Deputy Secretary General (Wasekjen) of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Eem Marhamah Zulfa asked the MPR to restore Gus Dur's good name due to the forced resignation by withdrawing the TAP MPR.

"The faction of the National Awakening Party of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia asks that the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia issue an administrative decree regarding Tap Number II/MPR/2001 no longer valid in accordance with Article 6 of the MPR Tap Number I/MPR/2003 in order to restore the good name of President Kiai Haji Abdurrahman Wahid," said Eem, Wednesday, September 25.

Eem said that MPR Decree Number II/MPR/2001 should no longer apply after the MPR RI Tap Number I/MPR/2003 which discussed Review of Materials and Legal Status of MPRS and MPR RI Decree from 1960 to 2002.

"Recovering the good name of President Kiai Haji Abdurrahman Wahid through the Indonesian MPR Tap Number I/MPR/2003 Article 6 sociologically and historically will be a big legacy for the leadership of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia for the period 2019-2024 as a form of commitment to realizing national reconciliation which will be highly appreciated by the extended family of President Kiai Haji Abdurrahman Wahid, by the big family of the National Awakening Party and also the entire Indonesian people," he explained.

After that, MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) said that his party had received a letter from the PKB faction regarding the request for the election of Gus Dur's name through the revocation of the MPR II/2001 TAP. Bamsoet approved the request and will schedule a separate plenary for the ratification.

"Based on the agreement of the Joint MPR Leadership Meeting with the DPD Faction/Group Leadership on September 23, 2024, the MPR leadership emphasized that MPR Decree Number II/MPR/2001 concerning the Accountability of the President of the Republic of Indonesia KH Abdurrahman Wahid is currently no longer valid, as stated by MPR Decree Number I/MPR/2003 concerning Review of the Materials and Legal Status of the MPRS and MPR RI Regulations from 1960 to 2002," said Bamsoet.

Bamsoet also encouraged the former Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia to receive awards. This is intended as an appreciation for the services that have led the nation.

"The Indonesian MPR leadership encourages the services and dedication of former President Sukarno, former President Soeharto, and former President Abdurrahman Wahid to be awarded a proper award in accordance with statutory regulations," he said.
