Situbondo Regent Files Pretrial Lawsuit After Becoming A KPK Suspect

JAKARTA - The Regent of Situbondo Karna Suwandi filed a pretrial lawsuit at the South Jakarta District Court (PN). He did not accept being named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Reporting from the Case Investigation Information System (SIPP) of the South Jakarta District Court, Karna's lawsuit is registered with case number: 92/Pid.Pra/2024/PN JKT.SEL. The submission has been carried out since Tuesday, September 17.

"Criminal classification of cases: whether or not the determination of suspects is valid," said the SIPP of the South Jakarta District Court, Tuesday, September 24.

The inaugural trial of the pretrial lawsuit is planned to be held on Tuesday, October 1.

Meanwhile, KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika said the full information about the lawsuit had not been obtained. He only made sure his agency was ready to face the trial that would be held.

"The KPK invites the plaintiff to exercise the right to file a pretrial lawsuit and we will face and oversee the process through the legal bureau in accordance with applicable regulations," he told reporters.

The KPK believes that the ongoing investigation is in accordance with applicable legal procedures. "So whatever will be presented at the pretrial hearing will of course be in accordance with applicable legal procedures or regulations," said the spokesman with the investigator's background.

The KPK is currently investigating allegations of corruption in the management of the national economic recovery fund (PEN) in the Situbondo Regency Government as well as the procurement of goods and services (PBJ) in 2021-2024. Two people were named as suspects based on the information collected.

They are the Regent of Situbondo Karna Suwandi and the Head of the PUPR Service of the Situbondo Regency Government Eko Prionggo.

So far, he has not been detained and is even running for Regent of Situbondo in the 2024 Pilkada.
