Previously, on February 7, 2023, the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) allegedly burned a plane belonging to Susi Air at the Paro airport, Paro District, Nduga Regency, Central Papua.

The plane carried five passengers, including a baby. The Pilatus Porter aircraft flew from Timika at 05.33 WIT and was scheduled to arrive at Moses Kilangin Timika Airport at 07.40 WIT.

After that, KKB stated that it had taken Captain Philip Mark Mehrtens hostage

Since then, the government has made various efforts to free him from forming the Cartenz Peace Task Force, approaching religious leaders, avoiding violence and always prioritizing negotiations.
