Mount Lewotobi Men In Flores Eruption As High As 700 Meters

KUPANG - Mount Lewotobi Male Monitoring Post Officer in Wulanggitang District, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara reported that a 700-meter eruption occurred at the top of the mountain.

"There has been an eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki on September 19, 2024 at 18.08 WITA with a height of ash column being observed at approximately 700 meters on the top of the mountain," said Mount Lewotobi Men's Monitoring Post Officer Herman Yosef S Mboro as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, September 19.

In the report, it was stated that the ash column height was approximately 2,284 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the southwest and west.

"This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of approximately six minutes 33 seconds," he said.

Currently, he said, Mount Lewotobi Men are at Level III or Alert Status.

"The eruption is still happening at this time," he said.

With the status of the mountain still at level III or on standby, his party has issued recommendations to the people around the mountain.

His party appealed to the community around Mount Lewotobi Men and visitors or tourists not to carry out any activities within a three-kilometer radius of the Mount Lewotobi Male eruption center and five kilometers in the Northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki.

This also applies to the prohibition for visitors or tourists who want to move on Mount Lewotobi Perempuan. Visitors are asked not to move within four kilometers of the North and Northeast sectoral directions

The public must be calm and follow the direction of the local government and do not believe in issues whose sources are unclear.
