GP Ansor Threatens to Disband NU Extraordinary Muktamar, Gus Salam: We Invite You for Coffee

JAKARTA - The caretaker of Mambaul Maarif Denanyar Jombang, KH Abdussalam Shohib or Gus Salam responded casually to the rejection of the Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor) on the plan of the Nahdlatul Ulama Extraordinary Congress (MLB) (NU).

If the rejection movement is carried out during the NU MLB, Gus Salam will invite GP Ansor, including Banser and Pagar Nusa to chat and have coffee together.

"If anyone comes to the MLB event, whether they agree or disagree, and even have the intention of disbanding, we will invite coffee, discussion, and Koran," said Gus Salam in his statement, Sunday, September 15.

The former chairman of the East Java PWNU emphasized that the NU MLB could not be disbanded. This is because the activity is included in the freedom of association and opinion as regulated by law.

Moreover, according to him, MLB NU will be held based on science and morals, so it does not require guarding.

"We will not stop fighting for the good of NU, Nahdliyin, and the people of Indonesia," said Gus Salam.

"All threats, intimidation, violence have never been met with the same thing. But we respond gently, love and wisdom. We hope that Ansor, Banser, Pagar Nusa will be more mature, wise and proportional," he continued.

Furthermore, Gus Salam reminded that actually GP Ansor, Banser, and Pagar Nusa are tasked with guarding ulama both structurally and culturally. Also, pesantren caregivers without discriminating Ijtihad in organization.

"I am sure that Ansor's friends, Banser, PN will always be based on conscience, science, akhlakul karimah as an actualization of the principles of Nahdlatul Ulama," he said.

This attitude has also been shown when there are differences and dynamics in attitude related to PBNU and NU, namely during the dynamics between Gus Dur-Kyai Hasyim Muzadi, Kyai Hasyim-Kyai Said, Gus Sholah-Kyai Said in the past.

"Alhamdulillah, Ansor, Banser, Pagar Nusa are always in the middle and take care of all kyai, both structural and cultural. I am sure, my friends will remain istiqomah on the same path," he concluded.

For information, MLB NU will be held at the end of September or early October in Cirebon, West Java. MLB NU was held on the basis of unrest of a number of Nahdliyin residents over PBNU under the leadership of Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya.

Then, GP Ansor in the 3 Cirebon/Ciayumajakuning area expressed a firm rejection of the MLB NU implementation plan. The management of the Cirebon Regency GP Ansor Branch threatened to forcibly disperse the NU MLB if it was still held.
