Fishermen In Batam Arrested For Allegedly Hoarding Soil Oil

A fisherman in Batam was arrested by the Directorate of Water and Air Police (Ditpolairud) of the Riau Islands Police. He is suspected of committing a criminal act of abusing the transportation and trading of subsidized fuel types of kerosene.

The Head of Public Relations of the Riau Islands Police, Kombes Pol Zahwani Pandra Arsyad in Batam, on Sunday, said that this arrest was made by the Sub-Directorate of the Ditpolairud Team of the Riau Islands Police based on information from the public.

"The perpetrator with the initials SR, carried 10 jerry cans of subsidized kerosene using a four-wheeled vehicle," said Pandra as quoted by ANTARA.

The chronology of the arrests began with information from the public received by the Riau Islands Police Ditpolairud Sub-Directorate Team on Friday, September 13, regarding the misuse of transportation and trading of subsidized fuel.

At 10.00 WIB, the team moved to the Tanjung Gundap area, Batam City, to monitor the movement of the information in question.

At around 13.14 WIB, the team saw a white Toyota Corona sedan with police number BP 1715 ZT driven by SR perpetrators.

"The car was allegedly used to transport subsidized fuel. The team chased and stopped the car," he said.

From the arrest, said Pandra, the perpetrator admitted that he brought 10 jerry cans of kerosene transported from Temoyong Island using a speed boat

"The team brought the initials SR and evidence to the Mako Ditpolairud of the Riau Islands Police for an intensive examination," he said.

Based on the examination of the perpetrators of SR, the team found an additional 4 jerry cans of kerosene, 61 bottles of mineral water measuring 1.5 liters/bottle containing kerosene, and other equipment in Kampung Tua Tanjung Gundap.

So that the total evidence of kerosene that was secured was 14 jerry cans, and 61 bottles each measuring 1.5 liters.

"All evidence was secured along with suspect SR for further legal proceedings at the Mako Ditpolairud of the Riau Islands Police," said Pandra.

In addition, the team also secured evidence of a white Toyota Corona sedan with Police Number BP 1715 ZT along with vehicle equipment letters, 2 cellphones, 1 unit of a speed boat with a 15 PK Yamaha engine, 1 oil hose with a length of 2 meters, 1 red oil funnel.

Suspect SR was charged with Article 55 of Law Number 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas on Earth, namely the case of hoarding subsidized fuel is threatened with imprisonment for a maximum of 6 years and a maximum fine of IDR 60 billion.

Pandra emphasized that the Regional Police will continue to be committed to efforts to eradicate all forms of crime that harm the community, especially the misuse of subsidized fuel that should be given to those who are entitled.

The middle-ranking police officer also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activities that could violate the law.

"Support from the community is very crucial in maintaining security and mutual order. Solid cooperation between residents and law enforcement officers is the key to creating a safe and conducive environment," said Pandra.

The arrest of the perpetrators of misuse of kerosene is the second time, on Friday, August 30, the Ditpolairud of the Riau Islands Police arrested 3 perpetrators of smuggling kerosene from Lingga Regency to Batam City.
