SAR Kutai Kartanegara Team Finds Two Children Drowning In Ex-Mining Lake

Efforts to evacuate the joint SAR Team against two victims drowned in the former mine lake (doc. Antara).

JAKARTA - The joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team from various elements in Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan, found two children drowning in a former coal mine lake in Bangun Rejo Village, Tenggarong Seberang District.

"The two children who drowned were both located in Bangun Rejo Village, Tenggarong Seberang, Kukar. Both were found dead at 19.45 WITA," said Head of the Kukar Regency Fire and Rescue Service (Damkarmatan), Fida Hurasani, in Tenggarong, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, as reported by Antara.

The initials of the two drowning victims were AAPJ (10 years), living in RT 11, Bangun Rejo Village. Then, the victim of VRT (9 years) lives in RT 15 in the same village.

Fida further told the chronology of the incident at around 15.30 WITA. Two of the victims together with four of their friends played and swam in a former mining lake located in Karang Rejo Hamlet, RT 16, Bangun Rejo Village, Tenggarong Seberang District.

The four friends swam on the edge of the lake, while the other two, namely the victim, swam into the middle of the lake. So, at around 16.30 WITA, the two children drowned.

Then the four friends reported to Ardy Prayitno (52), Head of RT 15, Karang Rejo Hamlet, Bangun Rejo Village, and Supardi (58).

As soon as they received reports from the four children, the two people immediately reported to the SAR Team.

Furthermore, the SAR Team immediately came to the location, secured the location, as well as conducted a search.

The joint team involved consisted of the police, the surrounding community, the SAR Team, the Kukar BPBD, and the Tenggarong Seberang Trantib.
