JAKARTA - Venezuela withdrew its ambassador from Madrid for consultation after Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles called President Nicolas Maduro's dictatorship a government, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said.

The comments made by Defense Minister Robles, Venezuela also summoned the Spanish ambassador in Karakas on the same day, as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik-OANA, Friday, September 13.

Robles in a public event on Thursday (12/9), said the Maduro dictatorship government had resulted in the mass migration of Venezuelans.

Via Telegram, Gil said the Venezuelan government "responded to inappropriate, intervention, and disrespectful statements from Spanish Minister

Robles' statement was deemed to have shown a decline in relations between the two countries and therefore Venezuela decided to withdraw Venezuelan Ambassador to Spain Gladys Gutierrez for consultation.

Gil said his party also summoned Spanish Ambassador Ramon Santoz Martinez at Karakas on Friday.

Meanwhile on Wednesday (11/9), Venezuelan Parliament Speaker Jorge Rodriguez asked lawmakers to ratify the resolution of diplomatic and trade-delay resolutions with Spain.

Rodriguez made the request after the Spanish congress urged the government to recognizefo Gonzalez as president of Venezuela.

Spain earlier this week confirmed that it granted Gonzalez asylum. Spain even flew him out of Venezuela using military aircraft on permission to leave the authorities in Karakas.

The politician himself was hunted in Venezuela on charges of interference in elections and incitement to violence on the streets. Gonzales arrived at a military base in Madrid accompanied by his wife, also by Spain's Foreign MinisterDiego Martinez Belio.

The Venezuelan people voted in the presidential election on July 28, whenNicolas Madurowas declared the winner with more than 51 percent of the vote.

The opposition claimed a major victory by citing the counting sheets they obtained from polling centers across the country.

The move sparked major opposition protests. Thousands of people have been detained on charges of damaging the country's infrastructure, delivering hate speech, and terrorism.
