JAKARTA - Anies Baswedan failed to run for the 2024 Pilkada because he did not get a ticket from a political party as a candidate for governor of Jakarta.

Responding to this, the 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla emphasized that Anies' failure to run for the elections should not be a regret.

"Yes, that's it, it's true, yes. We don't think anymore, make assumptions," said JK when met at his residence, Jalan Brawijaya Raya, South Jakarta, Monday, September 9 evening.

As a figure known to be close to Anies, JK assesses that there is still an opportunity like the former Governor of DKI Jakarta for the 2017-2022 period to return to participating in the election and regional elections.

"Yes, it's finished, what else do you want? There are still other times," said the Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross.

The opportunity for Anies to advance was carried by the PDI-P (PDIP) in the Jakarta gubernatorial election after being left behind by NasDem, PKB, and PKS, did not bear fruit. PDIP nominated its cadre, Pramono Anung-Rano Karno, who registered with the DKI Jakarta KPU on Wednesday, August 28.

After the registration period for the 2024 Pilkada was closed, Anies opened his voice. Anies admitted that he regretted that he failed to run for the 2024 Pilkada for the second period.

Anies' regret arose when he realized that he could not fulfill the aspirations of the people to be carried out when he returned to governorship.

"If I am asked if there are regrets or not, there is, there is regret. What I regret? What I regret is the aspirations of the poor people of the city, the poor people of the city who came to this house, in this place, after yesterday's presidential election took turns, groups came to share their wishes, aspirations 'Sir, please return the conditions we felt yesterday'," said Anies in a video statement, Friday, August 30.

Anies said that many Jakarta residents have complained about the lack of attention from the government in the last 1.5 years. Mainly about the lack of structuring of slum villages to improving their economic conditions.

"If you say you have feelings, yes, there are feelings, oh my, we can't solve these aspirations. Look at the abandoned residents of Kampung Bayam, it's hard to feel. Look at the villages that we come to every time, 'Sir, please finish this', it's hard if they can't get a completion of their efforts to improve their welfare," explained Anies.
