The Suspect In The Beating Of Kiai NU In Karawang Increases To 4 People

KARAWANG - Karawang Police, West Java have named two new suspects in connection with the case of beating Banser members and Nahdlatul Ulama kiai in Rengasdengklok District, bringing the number of suspects to four.

"The perpetrators had the initials JK and AM who were fugitives. Both were arrested on September 6, 2024," said Karawang Police Chief AKBP Edwar Zulkarnaen as reported by ANTARA, Monday, September 9.

The determination of the two suspects is the result of the development of an investigation into the beating case in Warudoyong Hamlet, South Rengasdengklok Village, Rengasdengklok District, Karawang, on Saturday 10 August 2024 at around 22.00 WIB.

The police chief said that the two suspects, based on the testimony of witnesses and the available evidence, beat one of the victims.

"The investigation process is still ongoing, so it is possible that there are other suspects. The threat of the suspects in this case is Article 170 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum sentence of five years and six months in prison," he said.

The four suspects have now been detained at the Karawang Police Headquarters detention center. Apart from the four suspects, there is also one other suspect who is now on the wanted list.

The incident of beating the kiai and Banser members in Warudoyong Hamlet, South Rengasdengklok Village, Rengasdengklok District, Karawang, occurred on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at around 22.00 WIB.

At that time, a group of people stopped the victim's vehicle and carried out damage and beatings.

"The victim was two people, namely a member of the Karawang Banser who was escorting a group of kiai who wanted to attend an invitation at the Al-Baghdadi Islamic Boarding School in Karawang," he said.

In the disclosure of the case, the police also confiscated a number of evidences. Among them, two helmets, one black vest, one striped shirt, one pair of Puma shoes, one two-wheeled vehicle type Vespa, two black bags, one Promax 11 cellphone, two ID cards.
