Subsidized Fuel Smuggling Occurs In Kapuas Hulu, Perpetrators Threatened With Six Years In Prison

KALIBAR - In the midst of the current fluctuations in oil prices, news emerged of the smuggling of fuel oil (BBM) subsidies of diesel type in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan. Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kapuas Hulu Police, Inspector of Police One Rinto Sihombing took firm action and condemned the perpetrators of the smuggling with the initials DK.

"We hope that this case will be a lesson for the public not to use subsidized fuel storage or misuse for personal gain," said Iptu Rinto Sihombing, in Putussibau Kapuas Hulu, Sunday, as reported by ANTARA.

Rinto said that from the results of the investigation, suspect DK was charged with Article 55 of Law number 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas of the Earth, as amended in Article 40 number 9 of Law number 6 of 2023, with a maximum penalty of six years in prison.

He said that the suspect DK was caught red-handed carrying 2,200 liters of diesel fuel without having documents or permits.

The arrest of the suspect was carried out on Jalan Lintas Selatan, Kumpang Hamlet, Boyan Tanjung Village, Boyan Tanjung District, Kapuas Hulu, Thursday (20/08), with evidence of a pickup car containing 2,200 liters of diesel oil without a permit or valid documents.

"From the confession of the suspect, the subsidized diesel oil came from Sintang Regency, which was then intended to be sold to gold miners in the Penembur area, Boyan Tanjung District, Kapuas Hulu Regency," said Rinto.

Rinto emphasized that his party is committed to supervising and taking action against the distribution of subsidized fuel, because in addition to harming the community, many require subsidies, misuse of fuel is also detrimental to the state.

He also appealed to the public and certain parties not to abuse or trade subsidized fuel illegally.

"We are committed to eradicating the misuse of subsidized fuel to maintain the stability of energy distribution and prevent state losses," said Rinto.
