JAKARTA - The candidate for governor of DKI Jakarta, Ridwan Kamil, when responding to his old upload on Twitter social media (now X), which has gone viral again, admitted that his figure was different from what he is now after becoming a public official.

"I used to be with the current one after becoming a public official, it's different. I used to be angry, my old tweet appeared again," said Ridwan Kamil in a dialogue at the Golkar Institute entitled Work-Based Transformative Leadership, reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 30.

Ridwan Kamil explained that he had apologized for his old tweet. RK claimed to have transformed.

"Actually, I've apologized. I've apologized three times. I'm sorry in 2013, when I ran for the mayor. I've apologized in 2018, how come it appears again? Apologize again yesterday, 2024," he said.

The former Governor of West Java admitted that he had been part of the community who expressed opinions through demonstrations.

Kang Emil then decided to enter the government system to improve the situation that also shaped him as a wise person.

"I used to be a demo driver too, but I had to change this country through going into the system. After [entered] the system, there were no controversial tweet content because I had transformed: wiser, measurable," he said.

However, Ridwan Kamil did not mind the old tweet that was brought up again by netizens.

According to RK, this is common in the political contestation process.

"Again, the contestation is vilifying. It doesn't matter," he said.

It is known that a number of old tweets from Ridwan Kamil on Twitter went viral some time ago. Many netizens uploaded and re-shared RK's old tweets, including those related to criticism of the City of Jakarta.

Ridwan Kamil then uploaded an apology via his official X account @ridwankamil on Sunday (25/8). He admitted that he was not wise in expressing on social media at that time and learned a lot from the process.

"Take care of me first. Let's move on (on)," he said.

Ridwan Kamil is a candidate for governor of DKI Jakarta in the 2024 Pilkada paired with Suswono as a candidate for deputy governor. Both officially registered with the DKI Jakarta KPU on Wednesday (28/8).

The RK-Suswono pair is supported by the Gerindra Party, the Golkar Party, the Prosperous Justice Party, the National Mandate Party, the Democratic Party, the Indonesian Solidarity Party, the National Awakening Party, the NasDem Party, the United Development Party, Perindo, the Gelora Party, the Garuda Party, the Crescent Star Party, Prima, and the Nusantara Awakening Party.
