KPU Will Extend Registration Time If There Are Only Single Candidates

JAKARTA - The Jakarta KPU opened the nomination registration for the Jakarta gubernatorial election on 27-29 August 2024. KPU commissioner Idham Holik said his party would extend the registration period if until the deadline for registration there was only one candidate pair (paslon) who registered.

"If until the third day the deadline for registration will be a candidate pair, it will be extended or extended," explained Idham Holik while reviewing preparations at the Jakarta KPUD, Salemba Raya, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, August 27.

He said the deadline for the reading and reading of the governor's registration period was August 29 at 23.59 WIB.

Idham explained that the decision to extend the registration time has been regulated in Article 135 of PKPU Number 10 of 2024. The extension of time will be increased three days later from the deadline, meaning until September 1, 2024.

If it turns out that there is only one candidate pair or leaves a political party participating in the election who has not yet proposed a candidate pair, then his party is considering extending the registration period for regional elections simultaneously throughout Indonesia. The extension is carried out three days after the deadline.

"So the KPU in the regions will conduct socialization and will expand registration for three days," he said.

Until now, the Jakarta KPU stated that Ridwan Kamil and Suswono had confirmed that they would register for the governor and cawagub for the Jakarta gubernatorial election on August 28, 2024 at 14.30 WIB.

The implementation of the registration for the Jakarta gubernatorial election is in accordance with KPU Regulation Number 2 of 2024 concerning the Stages and Schedules for the Election of the Governor and Deputy Governor, Regent and Deputy Regent as well as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of 2024.
