26 Gram Sabu Dealers In Medan Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court (PN), North Sumatra sentenced Sofian alias Iyen (43), to be proven to be a drug dealer of 26 grams of methamphetamine for 12 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion.

"The defendant Sofian alias Iyen was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison," said Chief Judge Firza Adriansyah, at the Medan District Court as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 27.

The judge believes that the defendant was proven to have circulated methamphetamine around Jalan PDAM Tirtanadi, Medan Sunggal, Medan City.

"The defendant's actions violated Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics, as the primary indictment," he said.

In its ruling, the panel of judges stated that the aggravating thing for the defendant did not support the government's program to eradicate narcotics crimes.

"Meanwhile, mitigating factors, the defendant was polite during the trial and admitted his actions," he said.

After hearing the verdict, Chief Judge Firza Adriansyah gave the defendant and public prosecutor (JPU) seven days to express their attitude to accept or file an appeal.

"For this 12-year sentence, a week is given to the defendant and the public prosecutor to express their attitude of accepting or filing an appeal," said Ferza.

The verdict was lighter than the demands of the North Sumatra Attorney General's Office, Anwar Ketaren, who demanded that the defendant be imprisoned for 15 years and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, provided that if he was not paid, he was replaced with imprisonment for six months.

Public Prosecutor of the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office, Anwar Ketaren, said in the indictment that this case began when officers from the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Director received public information on the circulation of methamphetamine, on Jalan PDAM Tirtanadi, Medan Sunggal, Medan City.

Officers conducted an investigation and saw the characteristics of the perpetrator riding a motorcycle that crossed the road, and stopped the motorbike.

"When conducting a search of the defendant, officers found evidence of three plastic packages containing 26 grams of crystal methamphetamine. Furthermore, the defendant and evidence were brought to the North Sumatra Police's Narcotics Directorate Office for further processing," said Anwar.
