Sitaro Residents Are Advised To Beware Of The Collapse Of Mount Karangetang Materials

JAKARTA - The Volcano Observation Post (PGA) invites residents who live on the slopes of Mount Karangetang in Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi to be aware of the collapse of volcanic material for the mountain on Siau Island.

"After the eruption some time ago, a lot of volcanic material was at the top or even the slopes of the mountain," said Head of PGA Karangetang Post, Yudia Tatipang as quoted by Antara in Manado, Sunday.

He said that at any time the volcanic material could collapse due to gravity, heavy rain or volcanic activity of Mount Karangetang.

The collapsed material generally runs along rivers or rivers that have an upstream from the top of the mountain.

"We still hope that residents who live around the river or river remain careful to avoid unwanted things," he hoped.

Yudia gave an example, on August 22, 2024 at 11:46 WITA and 12:44 WITA, it was recorded on the seismograph of avalanche earthquake activity with an amplitude of five with a duration of 90 to 112 seconds. At that time, visually, the mountain was covered in fog, the community was then expected to be careful when doing activities on the riverbank or times.

The lava fall has the potential to lead to the river or Batuawang river, Kahetang, Keting (East Siau District).

Meanwhile, in West Siau District, residents live in the river or Batang, Timbelang, Nanitu and Pangi rivers, they are also expected to be careful.

"We hope that residents comply with the recommended hazard radius. Currently, the status of Mount Karangetang is still on alert level two," he said.
