Joint SAR Team Searches For Flash Flood Victims In Ternate

JAKARTA - The Joint SAR team with the community in Ternate City, North Maluku (Malut), continues to search for victims of flash floods that hit Rua Ternate Village since early Sunday, August 25.

Head of the Operations and Alert for the Search for Ternate Basarnas, Bram Madya, Sunday, August 25, said that his party had deployed personnel together with the community to search for victims of the flash flood.

In fact, said Bram, due to the flash flood, as many as 10 residents were reported to have died and one resident was still in the process of being searched or evacuated, due to being buried by flood material.

According to him, the death toll is currently being identified, while three residents who were injured due to the flash flood have been taken to Chasan Boesoerie Hospital and RST for medical treatment.

Currently, Ternate Basarnas personnel, members of the TNI/Polri, BPBD and the intensive community are searching for residents who are victims of the flash flood.

As is known, heavy rains that flushed Ternate City and its surroundings from Saturday (24/8) night until Sunday, August 25 morning caused flash floods to hit the area in Rua Village, Ternate Island District.

The information obtained stated that the flood carrying mud material hit a resident's house on Sunday morning at around 03.30 WIT.

In addition to hitting dozens of residents' houses, the mud material also closed the access road connecting the Kastela area to the Ternate City Rua, as a result, two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles did not cross the area and are currently still cleaning up flash flood materials using heavy equipment.

The joint SAR team was constrained by flood material while evacuating residents, while the damage to residents' houses so far is still being collected.
