Labor Party Ensures To Guard KPU Regulations After The Constitutional Court's Decision

The Labor Party ensures to urge and oversee the General Election Commission (KPU) to issue a KPU Regulation (PKPU) based on the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK).

"The agenda is only one, urging the KPU to issue a new PKPU according to the contents of the Constitutional Court's decision Number 60 and Number 70, there is no other interpretation," said Labor Party President Said Iqbal when met in Jakarta, Sunday, August 25.

The Constitutional Court's decision No.60/PUU-XXII/2024 contains political parties or coalitions of political parties that do not have seats in the Provincial DPRD that can register regional head candidates.

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court's decision No. 70/PUU-XXII/2024 stipulates that the candidate for governor and deputy governor must be at least 30 years old during registration.

The decision also applies to several other cases that have the same legal issue, namely regarding the minimum age limit for regional head candidates.

Iqbal also mentioned the reason his party took action in front of the KPU building was because the agency had to issue PKPU no later than 27 August 2024.

"It means that there are only two days left from now, we make sure the PKPU is out before August 27, 2024. This means that on August 26 at 00.00 WIB there are already PKPUs that contain the decisions of the Constitutional Court No. 60 and No. 70," he said. Previously, the President of the Labor Party Said Iqbal said that his party would again hold a massive demonstration on August 25-27 at the KPU and DPR RI.

"There is a follow-up action, starting from August 25 to 27. Actions will be carried out simultaneously with the escalation getting bigger. Involving all elements of the Labor Party, labor union, labor party wing and society throughout Indonesia at the central and regional KPU offices, including government offices and DPRD in the regions and the DPR RI," said Said.

The agenda of the action demands that the KPU immediately issue a regional election regulation.

According to Said, the issuance of the regulation is written evidence regarding the follow-up to the cancellation of the revision of the Pilkada Law by the DPR RI.

"The demand is only one, the KPU has no binding obligation to consult. There has been a press conference, so we have just made a KPU regulation. Our attitude is to give the KPU a deadline no later than tomorrow (25/8) to issue a new regulation that contains provisions regarding regional elections in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court 60/PUU-XXII/2024," said Said.
