ICW Asks The Police To Open Information On The Eye Gas Contract With A Value Of IDR 188.9 Billion

JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) asked the National Police to open information about the purchase contract for tear gas since 2019-2024. The budget used comes from public taxes so that transparency must be put forward.

This was conveyed by the ICW Working Body, Wana Alamsyah, which alluded to the use of tear gas during a demonstration in a number of areas on Thursday, August 22 yesterday.

"The National Police will immediately open a document for the purchase of tear gas worth Rp. 188.9 billion from residents' taxes," Wana said in a written statement to reporters, Friday, August 23.

ICW, continued Wana, also asked the Police to stop the process of procuring tear gas. Until all contract documents and accountability reports are submitted to the public," said the anti-corruption activist.

In addition, Wana also asked the Central Information Commission to follow up on this request. Moreover, the National Police has submitted a dispute over the disclosure of tear gas procurement information.

"ICW in December 2023 filed a dispute of information with KIP," he explained.

"But, ed) to this day, KIP has not provided clarity on the resolution of the information dispute we submitted. We suspect that KIP is afraid to process information disputes against the Police, not just about the tight agenda of resolving information disputes by KIP," he concluded.
