Raw Water Pipe Leaks, PAM Jaya Customers In 84 Jakarta Villages Affected

JAKARTA - Perum Jasa Tirta II (PJT II), a water resource management company and PAM JAYA, a drinking water service company for DKI Jakarta piping, informed about a leak in the raw water transmission pipe of Perum Jasa Tirta II (PJT II) located on Jalan Prof. Dr. Satrio, South Jakarta.

This leak caused problems with PAM JAYA's clean water disbursement in 84 urban villages throughout Jakarta.

"We regret the occurrence of this incident and are committed to completing the improvements on time. We also continue to communicate with the South Jakarta City Government, PJT II, and PAM JAYA to accelerate the process of normalizing the situation," said Head of the South Jakarta Natural Resources Sub-dept., Santo, quoted Friday, August 23.

The pipe leak was allegedly due to technical problems during the construction project of the Setiabudi sub-district channel by the South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-dept., which intersects with the PJT II raw water transmission pipe.

It is estimated that the repair process will take one week, starting from August 23 to 30, 2024.

Separately, South Jakarta Mayor Munjirin said that his party had also facilitated the plan to handle pipe leaks and intensively coordinated with the Regional Apparatus Work Unit and related agencies.

"Given the massive potential for disruption, the South Jakarta City Government supports the parties involved to immediately carry out rehabilitation so that the situation is handled. Thus, the distribution of raw water by PJT II and clean water by PAM JAYA to the community can return to normal," said Munjirin.

Meanwhile, PAM JAYA Service Director Syahrul Hasan said that his party had prepared a number of anticipations related to the reduced supply of raw water. Although it is undeniable that if the supply of raw water from PJT II is recovered, PAM JAYA still needs a week, from August 30 to September 5, 2024, to normalize the quantity of clean water distribution to customers.

PAM JAYA is committed to minimizing service disruptions experienced by the community, especially during peak hours. We also urge customers to be willing to temporarily limit the use of water. In addition, we are also preparing assistance for the provision of clean water through water tanker trucks for public service locations, such as hospitals, places of worship, and social foundations," said Syahrul Hasan.

Temporary water tanks are also available for other PAM JAYA customers in need. The head of the RW in the affected area simply contacted the 24-hour customer service Lapor PAM at 1500-223.
