Circulating Jokowi's Request Letter To Become Head Of Golkar, Acting Ketum Calls Rumors

JAKARTA - Acting Chairman of the Golkar Party, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita (AGK) was reluctant to comment regarding the circulation of a request letter so that Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was willing to become the General Chair of the Golkar Party for the period 2024-2029 replacing Airlangga Hartarto. According to him, it was just a rumor.

"If I can't respond to rumors," Agus told reporters at JCC, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, August 20.

Agus Gumiwang only emphasized that the Golkar Party will continue to maintain the running of the elected President and Vice President Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

"The Golkar Party will continue to maintain the government of Pak Prabowo and Mas Gibran in order to successfully go to Advanced Indonesia and Golden Indonesia," he said.

Previously, a letter of request was circulated asking Indonesian President Jokowi to be willing to become the General Chair of the Golkar Party for the period 2024-2029 replacing Airlangga Hartarto.

The letter was signed by a number of senior Golkar Party politicians such as Mohamad Aly Yahya, Ridwan Mukti, Antony Zeidra Abidin, Ridwan Hisjam, Musfihin Dahlan, Agusman Efendi, and Riswan Tony.

"We ask for the sincerity and honorable willingness of Mr. Ir. H. Joko Widodo to be pleased to be the General Chair of the Golkar Party DPP for the 2024-2029 term which will be determined and ratified at the 2024 Golkar Party Extraordinary National Conference forum," reads the letter quoted on Tuesday, August 20.

The letter, which was written on August 14, 2024, was circulated to coincide when Golkar cadre and ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia registered as candidates for chairman of the Golkar Party on Monday, August 19, evening.
