Yasonna Removed From Menkumham, PDIP: Even Good, September Plans To Resign

Chairman of the Central Executive Board (DPP) of the PDI-P (PDIP) Djarot Saiful Hidayat emphasized that his party had no problem with Yasonna Laoly being stopped from being the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) by President Joko Widodo.

"We realize that the ministerial position is a political position and this is actually good for Pak Yasonna, yes. It is better if he is dismissed and we are faster to prepare ourselves," said Djarot at the PDIP DPP office, Central Jakarta, Monday, August 19.

Djarot emphasized that Yasonna actually intends to resign a month before Jokowi's leadership as head of state ends. Bearing in mind, the chairman of the PDIP DPP was elected as a member of the DPR for the North Sumatra electoral district I in the 2024 Legislative Election.

"Mr. Yasonna was also elected as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives. The plan is also for September to resign. But this is better and he is also very ready. The important thing is that he has worked optimally in Pak Jokowi's government since 2014 until now, as well as possible, in as straight as possible, by sticking to the constitution," explained Djarot.

However, Djarot suspects that there is a political reason behind Yasonna's removal from her position. According to Djarot, Jokowi replaced the position of Minister of Law and Human Rights because Yasonna previously ratified the extension of the PDIP management period for the next year until 2025 did not pass the head of state's permit.

"Because Pak Yasona may have been reprimanded for not asking the president for approval of the extension of the party's DPP management yesterday. Because the approval of the party management must go through the Ministry of Law and Human Rights," said Djarot.

Djarot also suspected that another reason Yasonna was dismissed was because he was present at the PDIP investigation declaration to Edy Rahmayadi as a candidate for Governor of North Sumatra in Medan some time ago.

As previously reported, President Joko Widodo officially inaugurated Supratman Andi Agtas as Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) replacing Yasonna. The inauguration was held at the State Palace, Jakarta today, Monday, August 19 at 09.30 WIB.

This procession begins by reading out the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Number 92/P of 2024 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of State Ministers of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet for the 2019-2024 Period. After that, Jokowi took the oath of office of minister.
