Mpox Virus Outbreak, China Tightens Borders

JAKARTA - Chinese authorities have tightened border controls to prevent the moderately endemicmpx virus from entering the country. The General Administration of Customs and Excise of China announced stricter surveillance measures against people and goods coming from areas affected by thempx. All tourists who experience symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, or rash are required to report their condition upon entry. These measures will be in place for six months. The African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) on Tuesday declared the MBX outbreak a state of public health emergency for continental security. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the situation of the campux as a state of public health emergency of international concern. Since early 2024, more than 12 African countries have reported thempx with the Democratic Republic of Congo accounting for more than 90% of reported cases.

Professional health experts say a person infected with thempox experiences symptoms within two to 19 days of exposure. Then, according to WHO, thempox causes rashes and symptoms, such as flu.Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a virus disease that can spread through close contact, as well as through contaminated materials, such as sheets, clothing, and syringes.
