JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights launched a new passport design on the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H. Laoly said the color of the passport changed to red and white nuances representing the Indonesian flag from the blue before.

"The philosophy is in line with our independence. With this choice of color, red and white, it shows our identity," he said, quoting Antara.

Not only from colors, Yasonna continued, each sheet in a new design passport also uses a design with 33 nusantara cloth motifs.

Apart from design, another advantage that is of the main concern of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights is security. In the latest design, there are enhanced security features in accordance with The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

"The standard strength of a passport is determined by its safety feature, which is not easily falsified. This passport has met that requirement. The previous passport was very good, but we certainly increase security," he said.

He said the changes were made with the aim of strengthening personal and national identity and so that it could become a safe and powerful means of travel.

"If we want to enter other countries, we immediately find out this Indonesian passport (this is an Indonesian citizen's passport) whose security features are good enough. There is no need to doubt anymore," said Yasonna.

Passports with new designs will begin to be distributed on August 17, 2025, because they still need to stock up on passports with old designs.

Yasonna also proposed to the Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Silmy Karim and the Director General of Immigration then during the reign of Elected President Prabowo Subianto to make a competition, namely for the first 100 people to get this new design passport, they will not be charged with passport making.

"So, you guys are competing later to make it. That (the passport) will have historical value for you," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Silmy Karim, explained that this new design passport will only be launched next year because it still needs to prepare many things, starting from the process of printing, policy, distribution, to preparing the system.

"That's why we start by launching a design. We will launch this designed passport on service next year in accordance with the promise a few months ago," he said.
