Congratulations To Prabowo-Gibran At The Joint Session, Puan: The Portrait Of The 2024 Election Must Be Autocritical

JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives and the DPD RI held a Joint Session in 2024 today. In his speech, the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives as well as the Leader of the Joint Session, Puan Maharani, alluded to the process of holding the 2024 general election (election) which was considered to be autocritical (self-correction).

"At the beginning of this year, we, the nation and state of Indonesia, have implemented an important and strategic national agenda, which will determine the implementation of the next 5 years of state government, namely the General Election for the President and Vice President, as well as choosing Legislative Members of the DPR RI, Provincial DPRD and Regency/City DPRD," said Puan at the beginning of her speech.

Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday 16 August. The Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI was attended by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.

Apart from President Jokowi and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD which is still in one series with the MPR Annual Session was also attended by the ranks of the Ministers of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet and the leaders of State Agencies/agencies. Among them are Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto who is also the elected President, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

"We congratulate Brother Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as elected President and Vice President. We also congratulate the brothers/ Sisters who have been elected as members of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the DPRD for the next period," he said.

Puan said that the implementation of the election for the people is a democratic party where people are considered important. Because the people are invited by each candidate through various entertainment, consumption, and souvenirs.

People are happy to enjoy democratic parties. The candidates also try to please voters so they can win their votes, try to appear sympathetic, the best self-photo is displayed to remote areas, restaurants, trees become victims, electric poles are full of stickers. All ways are done to get people's voices," said Puan.

For those who succeed in the election, everything is beautiful to remember, while for those who have not succeeded, feel difficult. Difficult to eat, difficult to sleep, some even find it difficult to bounce back," he continued.

Puan assessed that there were many events that occurred in the implementation of the 2024 General Election. The various challenges faced by the Indonesian people in the 2024 General Election are considered to have to be self-correction for all.

"That is the portrait of the 2024 General Election; It must be criticism and autocritical for all of us," said Puan.

The 2024 election has ended, the people have exercised their sovereign rights and given their choice, the people have assessed and voted. The people cannot be blamed for their choice, whatever underlies their considerations," continued the first woman to serve as chairman of the DPR RI.

According to Puan, this is because the people choose what they know and understand, regardless of the quality of what they know and understand. He also mentioned about quality elections that cannot only be seen from the participation of the people in choosing.

"However, it must be seen and assessed also from the freedom of the people to choose, namely whether the people can choose freely, honestly, fairly, without coercion, without being controlled, and without fear," explained Puan.

He added, maintaining and creating quality democracy, increasingly advanced, and educating the nation's life is a shared responsibility. Puan stated that shared responsibility is also about maintaining and creating civilized democracy, including regarding ethics in politics.

Winning the defeat is always in the election. We are required to have political ethics ready to lose and ready to win; Ready to compete, ready to side by side. The same political ethics also demand that the election be held by giving freedom to the people to carry out their sovereignty," said Bung Karno's grandson.

Puan said that stakeholders must continue to improve the implementation of the election which is increasingly free, honest and fair in order to be able to realize the sovereignty of the people. Through the implementation of the 2024 General Election, he considered that there were many things that should be used as lessons.

In the election, it should be the people who win: win because they can exercise their sovereign rights freely, honestly and fairly. So that the adageum People's voice is God' (Vox Populi, Vox Dei), said Puan.

Puan then reminded that in November there will be simultaneous regional head elections as part of the Indonesian nation's democratic agenda in 2024. The elections for governors and deputy governors will be held in 37 provinces and the election for regents and deputy regents as well as mayors and deputy mayors in 508 regencies/cities.

The legislator from the Central Java V electoral district hopes that the experience of the 2024 General Election can be used as an evaluation so that the implementation of the next democratic process will be better. Puan said, all must have the same commitment in order to maintain democracy in Indonesia.

"We are all committed, that all events that occurred in the implementation of legislative elections and simultaneous presidential elections in February 2024, both sweet and bitter, are bitter, to be an introspection material and a lesson full of wisdom," he explained.

"What's good, let's maintain it, and what's still not good, especially those that don't comply with democratic principles, of course we have to fix it," added Puan.

Puan stated that democracy is not just to choose individuals to become leaders through an election.

"But democracy is how to build a dignified nation's civilization," he continued.

The Joint Session of the DPR-DPD RI itself also invited the Ambassadors/Head of State Representatives Sahabat and Chairman of the Political Party. This Joint Session is the last session of the DPR-DPD for the 2019-2014 period.
