JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin revealed that the maternal mortality rate in Indonesia is still much higher than in neighboring countries. One of them is Thailand.

Based on the World Health Statistics 2020 report published by WHO, said Ma'ruf Amin, the maternal mortality rate in Indonesia is 177 per 100,000 live births.

"This is much higher compared to Malaysia, namely 29, Thailand 37, Vietnam 43 per 100 thousand live birth rates," he said in a webinar, Thursday, March 25.

Not only that, said Ma'ruf, indicators of child mortality are also in a similar condition. Under-five mortality in Indonesia is still recorded at 25 per 1,000 live births, compared to Malaysia, namely 8, Thailand 9, and Vietnam 21.

Furthermore, Ma'ruf said, various prevalence of diseases such as tuberculosis (TBC) and Malaria also still occupy the top level compared to neighboring countries.

"Likewise, the prevalence of our stunting under five is still high. Currently, we are still trying to achieve the 2020-2024 RPJMN target, in reducing the prevalence of stunting under five from 27.7 percent in 2019 to 14 percent in 2024," he said.

Ma'ruf said, the health resilience of a country is shown by the proper functioning of the health service system. This system must be able to handle a number of challenges.

To achieve this, said Ma'ruf, it requires quick adaptation capabilities to meet the rapidly changing demands of health services, such as the emergence of an unexpected pandemic, as well as the ability to collaborate between various related parties.
