Surya Paloh Gives NasDem Party Code To Join KIM Plus In The 2024 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election

JAKARTA - The general chairman of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, gave the party code that he would join the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) plus in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial and deputy governor elections (Pilgub). "I think that (Nasdem together with KIM in the Jakarta gubernatorial election) is clear," he said after receiving the Kepeloporan Medal award from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 14. Surya Paloh said, Nasdem wanted to enter the government of the elected president Prabowo Subianto and the elected vice president Gibran Rakabuming Raka (Prabowo-Gibran). "(Nasdem joins KIM) I have explained from the start, meaning that regardless, Nasdem positioned himself directly to be in government," said Surya Paloh. Regarding the Jakarta gubernatorial election, Surya Paloh admitted that it was difficult for former DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to win the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. "Pak Anies yes, you know the situation. Perhaps it is difficult for him to run in this Jakarta gubernatorial election," he said. However, Paloh was reluctant to describe in more detail the difficulties faced by Anies. "Try to ask Mr. Anies, only he can answer, the requirements are needed to comply with the existing laws," he said.

Nevertheless, he admitted that Anies was still Nasdem's best friend, regardless of the direction of support later in the Jakarta gubernatorial election. "What is clear is that Anies is Nasdem's best friend, that's clear," said Surya Paloh. "I have said earlier that in this candidacy it is not only Nasdem itself, so this must be complete, so complement each other, understanding each other. I think positively, of course, everyone will think about how the best can be given by political parties in a joint role," he concluded.
