Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas criticized the United Nations (UN) for failing to help establish a Palestinian state and blamed the failure due to pressure from the United States (US).

"The PBB has failed in its mission to provide a solution or adopt a resolution that will ensure the realization of the right of the Palestinian people to own the country," Abbas said in a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

"Due to pressure from the United States, the United Nations cannot carry out its mission to provide a solution or adopt a resolution that would guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people," Abbas, who was in Russia before his visit to Turkey, was scheduled to give a speech in the Turkish parliament on Thursday.

Abbas expressed his appreciation for the long-term cooperation between Russia and Palestine, saying that his nation has benefited from Russia's support for decades.

Abbas also cited a decision last month by the UN International Court declaring Israel's occupation of "illegal" Palestinian land and calling on Israel to stop acts that violate international law.

Condemning the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he said, "More than 40,000 people have been killed since October, about 80,000 injured, and more than 15,000 are missing. This is the reality in Gaza, along with the situation in Jerusalem and the West Bank."

The Palestinian people remain steadfast in their struggle, he said, to endure difficulties with patience and rely on humanitarian support.

Meanwhile, Putin acknowledged the challenges Russia faces, saying, "Russia today must defend its interests and people with weapons in hand. But what happens in the Middle East, especially in Palestine, remains the focus of our attention."

"We witnessed with pain and anxiety the humanitarian disaster that occurred in Palestine," he added.

Putin said that Russia had provided about 700 metric tons of humanitarian aid to Palestine and continued to take advantage of every opportunity to support the Palestinian people.

"Our main concern is civilian casualties, as according to the latest data, the death toll has reached 40,000, with the majority being women and children," Putin said.

Putin reiterated Russia's commitment to a peaceful resolution, saying that the root of the Israeli-Palestinian crisis lies in a failure to implement the decision to establish an independent Palestinian state.

"We believe that lasting and stable peace in the region requires the full implementation of all UN resolutions, especially for the formation of sovereign Palestinian states," he said.
