NTB Police Thicken Security For Riots In West Lombok Sekotong Mining Area

West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police have strengthened the security of riots in the gold mining area of Sekotong, West Lombok Regency. Head of Public Relations of the NTB Police, Kombes Pol Rio Indra Lesmana, said that his party is now assisting in the process of securing locations under the control of the West Lombok Police Criminal Investigation Unit. "Direct security under the Criminal Investigation Unit of West Lombok, we are from the NTB Police in back-up," said Rio in Mataram, Monday, The same thing was also conveyed by the Director of General Criminal Investigation of the NTB Police, Kombes Pol. Syarif Hidayat. Regarding the motive for the riots that resulted in the arson by a group of residents in the people's gold mining area, he said that the West Lombok Police Criminal Investigation Team was still investigating. "The temporary assumption (of the fire) is because there is illegal mining. The complete data is already in the West Lombok Criminal Investigation Unit. So, the police are handling the investigation process, we are just 'back-up'," said Syarif.

From information on the ground, he said there had been no casualties in the incident that had occurred since Saturday, August 10. Regarding the parties who were harmed in the incident, Syarif has not received further information. "So far, the information has not been reported from parties who feel they are victims. Maybe because of the alleged 'illegal minning'. However, from our observations so far there have been no casualties from the incident," he said.
