Alert, 2.5 Meter High Waves Occur In The West Indian Ocean Nias

JAKARTA - The Belawan Maritime Meteorological Station, North Sumatra, predicts waves as high as 2.5 meters are likely to occur in the West Indian Ocean of Nias, North Waters of Sabang, and the West Indian Ocean of Aceh.

"Be aware of the 2.5 meter wave height in the West Indian Ocean Nias, the North Waters of Sabang, and the West Indian Ocean of Aceh. This condition has the potential to occur from Saturday night to Sunday morning," said Maritime Meteorological Station forecaster Belawan Rizki Fadhillah quoting Antara.

He explained that wind patterns in northern Sumatra waters generally from southwest to northwest at 02 - 25 knots.

In general, the wave conditions in the northern waters of Sumatra are in the northern waters of Sabang, the western waters of Aceh, the waters of Meulaboh - Sinabang, the western Indian Ocean of Aceh, the waters of Nias - Sibolga, and the western Indian Ocean of Nias are in the moderate category of 1.25 meters.

While the waves in the northern part of the Malacca Strait, the waters of Sabang - Banda Aceh, Lhokseumawe waters, the central part of the Malacca Strait are in the low category of 0.5 - 1.25 meters.

Meanwhile, based on information from BBMKG WIlayah I Medan, the weather in North Sumatra on Sunday (11/8) morning, has the potential for light rain in Asahan, Humbang Hasundutan, Nias Islands, Langkat, Mandailing Natal, Padang Lawas, Pakpak Bharat, Serdang Bedagai, South Tapanuli, and surrounding areas.

In the afternoon and evening there is the potential for light to heavy rain in Serdang Bedagai, Simalungun, Mandailing Natal, Langkat, Pematang Siantar, Medan, Binjai, Karo, Deli Serdang, Asahan, and surrounding areas.

And in the evening and early morning there is the potential for moderate to heavy rain in the Nias Islands, West Slopes, Mountains, East Slopes, and the West Coast of North Sumatra.
