JAKARTA - The Islamic Boarding School and Community Development Association (P3M) demands the cancellation of Government Regulation (PP) Number 28 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of the Health Law 17 of 2023. According to P3M, this regulation contradicts the 1945 Constitution and the Constitutional Court's Decision, and threatens the tobacco ecosystem in Indonesia.
PP 28 of 2024 was ratified despite receiving many rejections from various parties, including P3M which has reminded the government of its negative impact on the tobacco sector.
The Director of P3M, Sarmidi Husna, emphasized that this PP can kill the tobacco ecosystem which has a big contribution to the national economy. "This PP can harm the people's economy, especially in the tobacco sector, both traditional and electronic," he explained.
In the National Halaqah held in Jakarta, P3M highlighted the many articles in PP 28/2024 which were deemed not in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court. According to legal expert Ali Ridho, "This PP is a form of constitutional disobedience."
If the government does not cancel this PP, P3M and the alliance will submit a judicial review to the Supreme Court. P3M also invites all parties to have a dialogue for a fair and sustainable regulation.
