Sandiaga Doesn't Want Over Tourism Tourism To Happen In South Bali Like Barcelona

BADUNG - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno does not want "overtourism" or excess tourism in southern Bali so it is necessary to anticipate that the protests that occurred in Barcelona do not occur in southern Bali.

Sandiaga said that currently, southern Bali or Badung Regency is approaching excess tourism, so it is necessary to evenly distribute it.

"Up 10 percent again, it's completely over-tourism, don't let it happen like in Barcelona where tourists become common enemies, we want to stay conducive," he said, Wednesday, August 7.

Sandiaga reflected in the protests by thousands of Barcelona residents last July who complained about excessive tourism and sprayed water guns on tourists.

For this reason, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy encourages investment opportunities that focus on the sustainability business and improve the quality of Indonesian tourism.

"I got the last figure in the first half of 2024 it grew above 20 percent and Bali remained the prima donna with a visit rate of more than 21 thousand per day, but we have PR distributing visits from foreign tourists to Bali other areas outside South Bali," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

From his records, the hotel occupancy rate has also improved by 90 percent, but tourists need the experience of traveling in other parts of Bali.

Sandiaga admitted that the gathering of tourism in southern Bali was caused by a complete ecosystem, but the spread was considered important because the traffic density had become one of the issues being echoed.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy encouraged West Bali and northern Bali to become the main options, including areas that were not heard by other than Buleleng and Jembrana such as Karangasem, Klungkung, Tabanan and Bangli.

The 9th Indonesian THINC Conference in Bali itself lasted for two days, where this activity became a forum for building networks, sharing knowledge and insight, and exploring new investment opportunities.
