JAKARTA - The Golkar Party asked the former regent of Purwakarta for two terms, Dedi Mulyadi, to run as a candidate for governor of West Java in the 2024 Pilkada.

This was confirmed after the meeting between Dedi Mulyadi and the envoy of the General Chair of the Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto, namely Singgih Januratmoko and a number of West Java Golkar officials in Bandung on Friday, August 2.

"We have discussed a lot earlier. The point is that we support Pak Dedi Mulyadi to become a candidate for governor in West Java," said Singgih as quoted by ANTARA.

Commenting on the proposal, Dedi expressed his gratitude to the ranks of the Golkar Party, especially Ketum Airlangga Hartarto.

"I would like to thank Mas Singgih and the board of the Golkar Party DPP, especially for the General Chairperson of the Golkar Party DPP Pak Airlangga Hartarto that his envoy had come to West Java to seriously talk about fianc matters in West Java Province," he said.

As a candidate, Dedi also admitted that he would ask for ridho and approval from the Head of Gerindra Prabowo Subianto to fight in the West Java Pilkada.

Dedi said that during the meeting he also received several messages from Airlangga by telephone to prepare himself.

"Pak Airlangga advised me, don't go too far if you play from outside the house, don't go through West Java, you have to be in the West Java region. Then later look for a partner in Golkar who fits the criteria as a good candidate for wife (deputy)," he said.

Ahead of this year's West Java gubernatorial election, Dedi has also communicated with parties at the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) regarding the nomination.

He is ready to accept the proposal in accordance with the coalition party's decision.
