Uniera Student Found Dead, Police Search For Evidence Revealing Motives

The police are investigating a student at Halmahera University (Uniera) named Julintia Hutagalung (20) who was found dead while hanging himself.

Head of Public Relations of the Halut Police, Iptu Denny Salaka confirmed the hanging incident.

"For the temporary motive, it is not known, we are currently collecting evidence. Currently, the family is refusing to conduct a medical examination (visum) and make a statement rejecting the medical examination/opSOpsy," he said at North Halmahera (Halut), North Maluku (Malut), Thursday, August 1, confiscated by Antara.

This Uniera student named Julintia Hutagalung was found dead hanging himself in one of the boarding houses located in Wari Village, Tobelo Halut District, North Maluku at around 17.40 WIT on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

Julintia hanged herself using a rope tied between the neck and wood in front of the bathroom in her boarding house.

The victim was first discovered by Selhana Tjanj Lolorie (20), a resident of Jano Village, West Halmahera Regency, who was a friend of the victim.

According to witness testimony, at the time of the incident it was the victim's birthday which should have been celebrated happily, not in a state of mourning.

"When the incident coincided with the victim's birthday and at 17.23 WIT, I sent a happy birthday to the victim via Whatsapp, the victim thanked him and then sent a voice message crying, that the victim ordered me to come to the victim's boarding house and open the door through the window, the victim also said that only I know if the victim's parents asked later they didn't know," said Selhana.

Then, said Selhena, at around 19.00 WIT, she invited Elen Sidete (20) to go to the victim's boarding house, upon arrival. The door then opened through the window according to the victim's request.

"Reckless, I was surprised by the discovery of a friend who was dead. I then ran and informed the residents of the hanging incident," he said.
