JAKARTA - The late Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas Ismail Haniyeh received support from Iran's Supreme Leader and the country's elected president, when he met the two on Tuesday, before being killed by an attack while in Tehran.
Ismail Haniyeh came to Tehran to attend the inauguration of the elected president Masoud Pezeshkian which was held on Tuesday.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei received Haniyeh together with the Secretary General of Islamic Jihad Ziyad al-Nakhalah. During the meeting, Imam Khamenei praised the extraordinary determination and resistance of the oppressed Gazan people.
"Currently, the most prominent Islamic flag is in the hands of the Palestinian people and the Gazan people. Thanks to their resistance, the basis for promoting Islam has been available more than ever," he said, quoted from the Khamenei.ir website, July 31.
"The magnitude and glory of the resistance came mainly from the Gaza people and the people of the West Bank, and we hope the Palestinians and the Resistance Forces will receive divine aid and support," Khamenei continued.
Meanwhile, the meeting with Masoud Pezeshkian was held separately, not together with Ziyad al-Nakhalah, before the president-elect of Iran underwent the inauguration.
Pezeshkian on that occasion expressed his unshakable support for the Palestinian people and their struggle, saying his belief in the Palestinian people's resistance to the Israeli occupation would lead to a "final victory".
Pezeshkian highlighted the Iranian people's historical commitment to the Palestinian independence struggle, which he said preceded the Islamic Revolution.
"The brutal crimes committed by Zionists, regardless of religion and sects, arouse disgust among all independent people," he was quoted as saying by IRNA.
