JAKARTA - The U-19 Indonesian national team won the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-19 Cup on Monday, July 29, last night. Commission X of the DPR reminded the government to provide bonuses to players and coaches who have worked hard to make the best achievements for Indonesia.

"Congratulations to Garuda Muda for making their best achievement for Indonesia. Now it's the government's turn to keep promises, give bonuses that match the results of their hard work," said Member of Commission X DPR, Andreas Hugo Pareira, Tuesday, July 30.

As is known, the U-19 Indonesian national team won the 2024 AFF Cup after beating Thailand 1-0 in the final match which took place at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya, Monday, July 29, evening.

According to Andreas, the success of Indra Sjafri's children deserves an appropriate award. Because all players, coaches and support teams have worked hard and were dedicated to making Indonesia proud.

"Of course this is the duty of PSSI as the parent of Indonesian football, as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Especially for young athletes, bonuses are very useful to motivate the development of their achievements," said the PDIP politician.

Andreas assessed that the reward in the form of bonuses for outstanding athletes is a form of state attention for the welfare of these young people. The principle of providing welfare for athletes is regulated in Law Number 11 of 2022 concerning Sports.

"Law No. 11 of 2022 clearly mandates the Government to pay attention to the welfare of athletes. We ask the Government to immediately follow up on giving bonuses to U-19 national team members because they have won the AFF Cup," Andreas explained.

In addition to bonuses, the legislator from the NTT electoral district also reminded the importance of coaching athletes from an early age, including through schools. According to him, the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Youth and Sports can work together in terms of printing athletes.

"If necessary, we can also create a sports education curriculum that will certainly be useful for children who have talent or potential in the field of sports," said Andreas.

Andreas said the House of Representatives Commission X in charge of education and sports affairs hopes that there will be collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Youth and Sports in terms of developing human resources (HR) in the field of sports. According to him, the Government can imitate developed countries in coaching athletes through schools.

"That's our big dream, so that Indonesia has an optimal sports education system for children. Because of these outstanding athletes, Indonesia's name is getting bigger in the international arena," said Andreas.
