Moeldoko: 3 Important Things For Acceleration Of Electric Vehicles In Indonesia

JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) Moeldoko mentioned the importance of the role of research in answering various issues regarding the development of batteries in Indonesia even in the world. He mentioned that there are three important things in accelerating the Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle (KLBB) ecosystem in Indonesia. First, the issue of electric vehicle batteries such as about capacity and durability, the duration of charging, prices to security which are currently still being widely discussed by the public. The issue of this battery is already known to be busy, such as how charging must be fast at long distances as well as low prices, so there needs to be research that can be applied especially with our resources,'' said Moeldoko at the International Battery Summit 2024 event, in Jakarta, Monday 29 July Moeldoko emphasized that Indonesia has great potential to become a global major player in the battery electric vehicle (BEV) industry with nickel resources as its raw material. He added that the government could seriously build an electric vehicle battery ecosystem by forming a holding company, Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC). Four integrated companies and IBC shareholders, namely PT Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID), PT Pertamina (Persero), PT PLN (Persero), and PT Aneka Tambang Tbk. Electronic Vehicle (EV) is one that makes a big contribution to the Indonesian economy, therefore it can be imagined that the market will be large,' added Moeldoko. Moeldoko also mentioned that the acceleration of the battery-based electric motor vehicle program has been stated in Presidential Decree 79 of 2023 which regulates the acceleration of the battery-based electric motor vehicle program for highway transportation. The acceleration was made to improve the KLBB ecosystem, among others, adjustments to the use of the level of domestic components and strengthening support of the Central and Regional Government.

In addition, the 2013-2015 TNI Commander also said that the government continues to socialize various incentives that have been provided for users and electric vehicle manufacturers who invest in Indonesia. The incentives provided are no exception on the basis of research and development of electric vehicle batteries. "Hopefully the electric vehicle automotive industry in Indonesia can develop and compete internationally," he said.
