PESISIR BARAT - Dozens of houses in West Coast Regency, Lampung, were badly damaged by coastal abrasion and extreme waves.
The affected residents hope that the government will soon build abrasion retaining embankments to protect their homes.
Beach Abrasion and extreme waves have caused heavy damage to houses in Negeri Ratu Village, North Coast District, West Coast Regency. Almost all of the damage occurred to the roof of the house.
Based on data from the village, it was recorded that 20 houses were heavily damaged and 50 other houses suffered minor damage due to high waves.
This damage has been going on for the past seven years, raising concerns among 85 families (KK) living in Negeri Ratu Village. Local residents are wary of every time high tide, as extreme waves often hit their homes.
One of the houses that was badly damaged belonged to Yulida Wati (43 years). His house almost collapsed after being hit by a large tree that fell due to tidal waves.
Yulida Wati and her family now live in rented houses and have not repaired their houses that were damaged due to trauma.
"The tree incident collapsed a year ago, at night. The tidal wave knocked down a tree and hit it," said Yulida Wati, Sunday, July 28.
Yulida added that he was still traumatized by the incident.
"We are always wary because high waves can damage our homes at any time," he said.
The Ratu State Villager hopes that the government will soon build a coastal abrasion embankment. The Ratu State Village Government has submitted a request to the Mesuji Sekampung Center for the embankment construction project.
The head of the Ratu State Village, Irfan Susanto, revealed that the beach abrasion in his village had occurred since 2017. "Abrasi has been seen since 2017-2018. Now, every time there is a tidal wave, residents are worried because the waves enter their homes," said Irfan.
